Post-Ironic Devotional July 4

The Fourth of July is worth more than mildly bored memories of going to fireworks.
The Fourth of July is worth more than all the other holidays combined
Because the Fourth of July is the day we can celebrate America, and American-ness
The day we can go for a long drive for no reason other than to remember we're free
The day we can listen to music that both rocks and rolls, that combines african, yiddish, classical, and appalachian sounds to make something unique and free
The day we get with friends, screw around, and remember what it is to be free.

So buy your loved ones presents, and go beat up an englishman (or at least loudly read Thomas Paine to them). Todays the day to put aside your irony. For today at least.
