Two Poached Pea[r]s in a Pod

What to do with extra pears and leftover red wine? Do I need to answer this? Here's how to make delicious poached pears, with very little effort.

2 1/2 cups of decent red wine
2 cups of water
2 tea bags of chai tea
1 tsp mulling spices (substitute 1 more bag of chai if you don't have this)
1 tablespoon of chopped ginger
1/2 cup sugar
1 tbsp. honey
2 firm pre-peeled pears (leave stem on)

Let all of this come to a boil, add the pre-peeled pears, then reduce to a simmer. Let this simmer for an hour, turning the pears over once if they are not completely covered. Let them cool in the elixir before removing.
Voila! Delicious, easy peasy, pretty, poached pears, to eat warm or cold (though I prefer warm) for breakfast or as a dessert/ice cream accoutrement. Bonus points if you add a 1/4 cup sugar to the leftover mixture, let it reduce to a syrup, and drizzle it over the ice cream.
